Spinal Fusion Procedure

When is spinal fusion procedure needed? Is that the procedure that is necessary in vertebra fracture? Can scoliosis be treated by spinal fusion? If you know anything about this, please post. Thanks in advance.

Not all spinal fractures need to be treated by spinal fusion. Fractures associated with injury of spinal cord or spinal nerve need spinal fusion as part of treatment. Scoliosis is commonly treated by SF. Conditions like actual or potential instabilities and herniated disc are treated by SF. This approach requires bone graft that can be allograft or autograft. Autograft is gold standard for Sf and allograft is used from bone bank, as alternative to patient’s own bone.
