Spotting but no period and a negative home pregnancy test

I had my last period on December 25th and it is usuall about 30-33 days before my next one. For the last two days I have noticed pinkish/brownish spotting but no period. The last day my husband and I had sex was January 12th and we are trying to conceive so we did not use protection. Could this be implantation bleeding? I have taken a pregnancy test and it is negative. It is too soon to be testing if we might have conceived on the 12th??
