Spotting durnig pregnancy

I am 25 years old and I just found out that I am 8 weeks pregnant. 
~ My husband and I didn't think that we could have children but here we are pregnant. I have spotted a couple of times and I have a very light pain in my lower stomach on the right side. Is this normal?
