Spotting while on pill one week before sceduled period

this has been my first month on the pill and I just started very lightly brown spotting(about a week before my first period while on the pill)
the only thing I have done wrong while on my pill was take it close to a half hour to hour late
I dont understand why that would cause spotting and I only took it late that time which was two days ago.
Whats up with that? I don't get whats going on I am pretty sure I'm not pregnant and my inactive pills start next sunday. Does anyone know whats going on?

I also forgot to mention I've been sick with a cold for the past 3 days
