Started taking pill at the wrong time??

My doctor prescribed me Zovia, & she wanted me to start taking the pill on the first day of my period. My last period started on Aug23rd & I went to the dr on Oct 4th. I have a long cycle so I was expecting my period around then. So, On the instructions of the pill it says you should either take it on the first day of your period or on the sunday after. I thought i started on Sunday so i took the first pill, now my period has stopped. (i guess i just started spotting). So did i start at the wrong time? or was it ok that i started taking them on that day?
