My son 12 year was rollerblading and he fell hard on his back on the concrete--his arm were out to the side when he fell--he has a large lump on his sternum from the fall--(he never fell on the front of him) He is breathing fine and playing just claims that above the swelling in one spot it hurts a little. The doctor claims he may have fractured his sternum--but need xrays to prove this--they wouldn't do anything for him anyway if he did do this. Should I just pay for Xrays to confirm this for his medical records or just let it heal on it's own? How long does something like this take to heal?

I was playing in the pool and got hit in the sternum. I am in pain when I try to move. I am pretty sure I fractured the sternum. Outside of x-rays to confirm, what can I do? How long does it take to heal ... I have to work. Any suggestions for sleeping?
