Hi. I am 39 years old. My husband (40) had a stroke. He is home now and I am taking care of him. However, his brain tissue on the left side is damaged and he has problems with speech. He also has troubles with swallowing and breathing. I would like to hear something about Stroke Recovery and rehab.

Hi. My father had a stroke and the most important things are early treatment and encouragement. Recovery and rehab depend on the part of brain in question and the amount of damaged tissue. Rehabilitation is facilitated, you can`t do it at home. Rehab may include physiatrists, nurses, dietitians, physical and recreational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists, etc. Rehab is aiming to help people relearn skills they may have lost (speech, walk, etc).
