Vulvodynia is a common condition that’s characterized by pain during intercourse, itching and burning in the vagina. Problem is that vulvodynia is often misdiagnosed and therefore untreated the way it should. Vulvodynia is a part of female genitalia and it consist of labia, clitoris and vaginal opening. Women who suffer from this condition experience constant pain that could last for months or even years if left untreated.

Doctors say that this condition is hard to diagnose and often is mistaken with yeast infection or skin disease. The tissue of vaginal region may be inflamed and swollen but often it looks normal so the diagnose could be confused with some other conditions.

The cause of vulvodynia remains unknown due to lack of researches on this matter in the last couple of years. However, researchers claim that vulvodynia is not caused by an STD and for now there’s no cure for this condition but what’s important is that women should be advised to seek professional help because the pain induced by vulvodynia could be treated.

I have this and going to the doctor does not help. Mostly, they prescribe me more meds and it gets worse. Then I give up and don't go for awhile and it gets better. However, at some point it gets too painful and I go see them again. It is a vicious cycle. I just want to understand why this has happened and what I should really do about it.
