Subungal Melanoma

A friend of mine was diagnosed subungal melanoma. It is very small cancer on his finger. I’m not sure how
serious it can be. I guess that it can be surgically removed. Is that type of melanoma likely to metastasize?
I guess that one would rather live without finger than with a cancer?

Sublungual melanoma occurs under nail and is more common in dark skinned people. Prognosis depends
On a stage of the disease at the time of diagnosis. Tumor thickness, invasion on bones, vascular invasion,
general patient’s health are important factors that play role in determination of prognosis. Melanoma is curable
disease in early stages, if haven’t yet metastasized and can be completely removed. Stages 1 and 2 are likely to
be curable. In stage 3, usually lymph nodes are invaded too, and that’s the new factors that take part in prognosis.
