Suddenly developed post-polio syndrome!How bad will it get?

I need some information. My friend suddenly developed post-polio syndrome! How bad will it get? I don’t know anything about it. Is it the same like polio? I’m totally confused because it came so unexpectedly. Can somebody who knows something about it, tell me do I need to worry? Thanks!

People who had polio at a young age may experience certain late effects of the disease many years later and that is called post-polio syndrome. Nobody knows why that is happening. Post-polio syndrome is rarely life-threatening but you should know that severe muscle weakness can lead to certain complications. Don’t worry if your friend has adequate treatment.
