hey
after i have been swimming i often get a sore red foreskin a day or two later, and then this sore red skin turns into flaky skin and the foreskin gets really tight for about a week. This does not help as i swim regularly, as i am a lifeguard.
Have i caught anything? Is it just a bad reaction to chlorine? |

I have the identical problem with my son. This will be the third year now ( He's seven, this never happened before age five)... every time I take him swimming in a chlorinated pool (doesn't happen in the river or lake) the next day his foreskin becomes red & very sore, then as we wait for the pain to go away (several days!) it gets very tight and crusty. (healing) Some suggest that bathing or rinsing thoroughly after swimming is the solution. It is not!! The pediatrician has no solution for us either. For the record... over exposure is not required, one hour in and out of the pool is all it takes!! As you can imagine this puts a real damper on summer fun for my little guy! He's suffering with it right now. (We were only in the pool for 45 mins. yesterday...the first time in chlorine since last summer.) If any one can offer some good advice it would sure be appreciated!!

| Well, I have the same problem, I went swimming in a pool that was heavily chlorinated. It burned my eyes even though they were closed. Not very bright on my part. But, anyways I tried a few things to make the pain more tolerable. I took a shower thuroughly washed the area that hurt with soap and water. It was VERY painful. running the water down your hand or some other way so you gently add water and soap to your penis helped. Though it hurt alot, I used Petroleum jelly afterwards and gently applied it thickly. It seemed to help alot with the pain. Using anything that helps with burns should help. as it was the skinned that was burned by the acidicity of the chlorine so treat it as if is a burn and it should heal fine. |
