My 83 yr old mother has the following symptons:
swollen stomach
swollen legs and feet
discoloration of the body between the mid calf and lower legs (reddening of the skin)
no pain but discomfort due to tightness of the skin
Any information about this condition, causes and treatment would be appreciated
I could suggest doing a little research on Chronic Venous Insufficiency, but I would also say a few words about it so that you can decide whether this is what affected your mother.
This is actually what the elderly are suitable to get. The first symptoms are the legs and ankleSwelling and as the Swelling and pressure and Swelling increase, the capillaries in leg can burst and give the skin a red discoloration. Such skin is easily broken by a scratch or bump. When this happens, the patient could easily get leg ulcers that can become infected.
I think your mother should do he ultrasound examination of the leg veins. If she is diagnosed with Chronic Venous Insufficiency, she will be treated with compression stockings or maybe some anti-itch or antifungus creams.
Whatever this is, you should make the appointment with the doctor immediately!!
