| This is so weird to hear someone having symptoms that are so similar to mine. I can relate to pretty much everything you said... feeling like people don't believe your sick, wanting your life back, wanting to feel like a normal person in their 20s in stead of someone in their 70s... This situation has happened to me twice. The first time I came down with a really bad sore throat, achy body, lots of weight loss. I went to the dr and the rn literally cringed when she looked at my throat. She did a strep test and a mono test both of which came back negative but she prescribed me a zpack. (Keep in mind I had told her that I had mono when I was in high school and she verified that you are able to show symptoms again). About a month after that sore throat gone I started feeling really run down. Which turned quickly into exhausted. I couldn't walk up a flight of stairs without feeling like I wanted to cry. I made another appt and started seeing a new rn at the same office as before. She ran all the same tests you had. Every 2 weeks I was back again until one day I passed out completely while having my blood drawn. Finally the rn informs me that she's going to test me for mono again. Only this time she would do what's called the reactivation test. It came out positive. So for about 2 months I was tested for things that really could've been avoided if the initial rn had done the right test on me. A reactivation test. Not a primary test. To boot, there's nothing you can do with mono. Sleep as much as you can, take a multivitamin and I was told to take omega3 to boost my immune system. I finally got over it and started to feel good. Fast forward now to this winter... I was going on a cruise and started working out regularly when I came down with a head cold or something... it lasted for 2 weeks but I was completely outta commission. It wrecked me... I started to feel better and 3 weeks later started working out again... then I got sick again. I pretty much went 2 weeks on 2 weeks off for 3 rounds of illness. I was sick for my entire vacation. And now here I am again with the same fatigue as before. Tested again for liver and kidney function, anemia, etc. So where do I go from here? Please keep me posted if you've made in progress with your situation... I'm really interested and excited to have someone that feels the way I do. |

| i feel like i have the same mysterious thing going on. For me it started with what the hematologist found to be cytomegolovirus about two years ago i have been having the following symptoms: swollen on the sides of my neck extreme fatigue one time i had to call in for two days because all i wanted to do was sleep, muscle weakness joint pain, random cramps, wieght gain, depression, terrible migraine headaches accompanied by nausea and extremely heavy periods i was just wondering how they found the bladder infection because ive had my blood and urine tested several times for thyroid, general infection, hiv, and it always comes up normal for all those the only thing they found was that i have thrombocytopenia which doesnt seem related to the afforementioned symptoms and they wont treat it because my platelets arent that low (<65000/mL) after 3 different drs had the same results one of them who was holistic was going to test my neurotransmitters among several other things but he was too expensive and not covered by my insurance i think the fact that i have itp threw the drs off the trail of finding out that i was pregnant about 6 months after i started getting these symptoms. I had preeclampsia and had her 5 weeks early now shes 6 months old and i still have those same symptoms around the time when all this started i had a really bad bladder infection with blood in my urine and lots of pain but they gave me antiobiotics for it and i thought it went away so i was wondering what the persons symptoms were for the bladder infection and how they found it maybe i can have them check for that. i dont know it sucks having this poor of a quality of life and not being able to fix it as a 30 year old mother of 2! |

Oh my gosh it is a relief to know that I am not the only one in this world to feel like that. I have 95% of the symptoms you all have wrote about. It is the most horrible feelings. I am 23 years old with two beautiful girls and a wonderful husband. My oldest daughter is 6 and since I have had her I have felt this way. When I was in school though I did have a hard time concentrating. I feel bad everyday and when I am at work I can't focus or concentrate, I am always forgetting everything and it really frusturates me. I to have fatigue, weight gain, muscle or joint pain, sometimes i tune in and out, I get angry for no reason, I can't think straight, I feel very weak most of the time but then a spurt of energy will hit me and It's like christmas to me b/c i never have energy. I haven't went to the doctor yet b/c i don't want anything to be seriously wrong with me. I also wandered if it was all in my head b/c people would say they think I am a hypercondriact. These symptoms are all real and i just want to feel well again. Oh and I have lost so much hair, I used to have the thickest hair and now it is so thin, even my hairdresser thinks something is up. Dry skin to. I hope we all can find a cure for what we have and good luck to all the others who feel tha same way!!!

Here is a list of my symptoms:
-Swollen glands in neck, which are also painful, and have been swollen since before christmas. Doc said they aren't hugely swollen.
-Fatigue that isn't relieved by rest.
-Sleeping for long periods of time, when I wake it feels like I have a brick in my head its so heavy. The sleep is also really deep. needing a nap in the middle of the day.
-Having energy for a few hours and then it feels like someone has pulled the plug.
-pain under arms and in my lower abdomen.
- Poor short-term memory and concentration problems.
-Regular feelings of dizziness, and when I'm walking sometimes it feels like the ground is rising up to meet me, and I feel like my legs aren't really there.
-weight gain, ( I had lost weight and its all back on plus some)
- regularly light-headed.
- regular headaches
- thinning hair, dry skin.
-diarrhoea at least once a week, (i'm not eating anything different, and there doesn't seem to be a specific food that sets it off.)
- stiff muscles and muscle pain, occasional numbness espec in hands,
I also had a tremor in my right hand the other day, it only lasted a few minutes but my arm remained weak for hours afterwards.
- really heavy painful periods (although I have had these for quite some time), also my cycle is getting longer.
I first went to doc in jan where they ran bloods everything was normal except TSH was 8.96 normal range is between 0.5 and 5.
I was told that I had an underactive thyroid but that they had to wait 6 weeks and recheck it, because my t4 was 15.1 and was in normal range as was T3. Second blood test showed TSH had come down to 5.96 however t4 had dropped to 11.1 normal range is between 9 and 20. So it is still normal. The doctor wanted to keep seeing me and test again in 2-3 months time which will be the beginning of may.
The doctor told me the last time I was there that my Tsh alone wouldnt be causing my symptoms and that she doesnt know what is wrong with me, she just said that every time she sees me its another piece of the puzzle. She said that perhaps we have just jumped to the wrong conclusion because of the Tsh and maybe it isnt the thyroid that has been causing the symptoms, and it was just the obvious assumption because of th abnormal TSH and the fact that hypothyroidism runs in the women in my Father's family.
But to be honest I don't know how much more of this I can take, everyone seems to have an opinion whats wrong with me aside from the doctors, and I have noticed mood swings which really isn't like me. I had to take time off work, and then had to go back because the isolation on top of feeling so wretched was beginning to get me down. I don't drink alcohol very often (less than once a month) and I don't take drugs, nor have I ever dabbled, I don't smoke (although both my parents do), I've been so tired I haven't been able to go out with my friends, or if I do I always have to go home really early. They have been really understanding but it's hard because in the surface I don't really look sick, tired most of the time but not gaunt. I've had friends ask if it could be in my head, I've even wondered that myself, but in my heart of hearts I don't believe that it is, I just want my life back! The doctor has told me she doesn't think its in my head which is reassuring in some small measure, but I still have no answers. I have went from someone who was rarely sick to someone who is attending the doctor once every two weeks, and no offence to the doc but I'm sick of the sight of her.
I've been missing uni and am finding it almost impossible to keep on top of the work load, I'm frightened this is going to cost me my career.
I have tried everything I can think of from multivitamins to herbal supplements ,to trying to limit the amount of sleep to allowing myself to waken naturally, tried only sleeping in 4 hour blocks, eating really healthily, drinking lots of water.
I also can't seem to cope with a lot of heat but I am really intolerant of the cold, I feel cold when my friends all think its not.
I really hope someone out there can tell me they know how I feel. and have some idea what might be wrong with me. I'm at my wits end. I am on no treatment from the doctor, she recommended the multivitamin/ multimineral supplement and has ok'd the stuff from the health-shop.
I also have been told that I seem to be having very frequent viral infections, i'm not over one before the other hits, and my immune system seems very suppressed.
I've also felt underneath my tongue swell up from time to time.
any insight or advice would be gr8tly appreciated. | |

Maybe this is depression. I have many of the same symptoms and when I googled for them as a group, this fascinating article came up about depression. It ties in to a lot of the physical aspects of depression -- memory and concentration, low energy, physical pain because of lower serotonin levels. A lot of the article gibed with my experience.
The article indicates that depression can be a result of just being too stressed over a period of time. Some of the people who responded here are mothers of 2+ kids--highly stressful (if also incredibly wonderful and fulfilling) work! It shouldn't surprised people that moms can be stressed by the pressure to get everything right. |

| I have the same symptoms from Jan this year. I had all the blood tests and everything seems to be ok, except one test: ANA test. Mine was slightly positive, so I was sent to a rheumatologist, but he said everything it's ok. I don't know what to do anymore. I had some massage and I tried some homeopathic remedies and I feel a little bit better. TIA |

| I hear you with all of the symptoms. I've had various ones to varying degrees over years too. I was finally diagnosed as being hypothyroid. I work with an integrative/holistic doctor. "Traditional" doctors all previously gave me the run around and dismissed my thyroid numbers saying there were normal and even suggested I have depression and anxiety and prescribed me medication for those. My cholesterol was high too and I had PCOS. High cholesterol is a symptom of an underactive thyroid and PCOS is linked to all of that too - with the sensitive and interconnected endocrine system. Anyway, one thing I want to say is not to give up. Eventually you will find someone that will help and you can trust. I would suggest the holistic/integrative route. They will work with you on the thyroid numbers and probably even recommend certain vitamins, herbs, minerals and/or homeopathic treatments. One thing I want to mention is that there's a new scale for thyroid numbers that most "traditional" doctors don't follow! It's 0.3-3.0!! See here: http://thyroid.about.com/cs/testsforthyroid/a/newrange.htm. I feel best when my TSH is around 1.0. Good luck. |

Hi all,
I had a real bad virus/infection in december 07. I had a burning temperature of 41oC and severe muscle pain (I was not able to move) I was so poorly my doctor started treating me for Rheumatic Fever (Very unheard of these days!).. Anyway I had blood tests done and all it shown was high platelet count but nothing to be worried about apparently! Anyway it took me weeks to recover, that then turned into months. I went back to work in Feb 08 after 2 months off being sick. I still was not right, I had periods of pain especially tops of my arms, swollen glands (especially right side under jaw), severe fatigue and headaches everyday. So after a few visits back with my GP he suspected I had ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and gave me another months sick note. He then refered me to an endocrineologist/ME specialist. They have done further blood tests that now reveal I have a Folic Acid deficiency and a viral infection! He wrote me a prescription of the highest dose of folic acid and Vitamin B compound in case I have B12 involvement. Could this be the same infection I had at christmas if so I am so worried as it is chronic and not going away. I am also having weird goosebumps just on my lower left arm.. they come up in patches, it happens nowhere else on my body. My consultant has asked me to go back on Tuesday next week 16th Sept 08 for further investigation to find out what type of virus I have. He has also tested me for Coeliac Disease and I get the results back on tuesday when i see him. I am still very ill, it has no been 10 months I have consequently lost my job from time off sick and my husband has had to take time off work to look after me and the children. I so need to be well, I want to be well.. after 10 months you would think they know what it is huh! Anyway let me know how you all get on will leave an update later next week. Take care all and don't give up.. XXX |

| I'm 23 years old. I've had all these symptoms you des(ribed for a very long time. Ask your do(tor about (hroni( fatigue syndrome and fybromyalgia. These are treatable. Even though i was diagnosed with these last year, I hadn't been to a do(tor that was any help at all. I re(ently have been to see a woman named dr. sylvato who seems to really know what shes talking about. I have a severe glutathione defi(ien(y. I'm re(eiving inje(tions of this glutathione in order to boost my levels. I'm having 1 every week for 6 weeks. I've just had my se(ond inje(tion. Also, she gave me a rule, for every i spend doing something that requires energy, I must spend 2 hours resting. I don't know if this is what you have, but it won't hurt to ask your do(tor to test for low glutathione levels. |

| Oh my. I no longer feel alone. I read your post the whole time going "thats me!". I too am 20. I too have EVERY health issue you named. and more. I too have a doctor that has done all sorts of blood tests and sonograms etc and cannot find out what is wrong with me. I have a mother, grandmother, sister and 2 aunts that have fibromyalgia. My doctor refuses to test me for it because of my age ( my sister was diagnosed at age 20.) I personally think she is profiling me? Possibly thinks i just want pain pills? She has tested my blood and knows there is nothing there. I have NEVER used any drugs. I do not drink, and i occasianlly smoke a cigarette (in the process of trying to quit). I dont wanty the pain meds i just want to know what the hell is going on with me. I have always been a very healthy person. I got pregnant with my son the beginning of 07. I gave birth and initially lost half of what i gained, but now i have gained back all of my pregnancy weight and some meaning i weigh more than i did at 9 months pregnant. I have a 1 year old son. I am a very busy person and it's as if my body wont keep up, its truly frustrating...i have actually found myself falling asleep at random points throughout the day from pure exhaustion, but that is dangerous considering i have a 1 year old in my care. I am horrified i am going to leave my son without a mother. They wanted to do a sleep apnea test on me too...have yet to do that. Did you do yours? If you could possibly e-mail me and we could discuss further our symptoms and testing? or anyone else that has any advice or etc? My e-mail is Kisleboo@Hotmail.com, thanks u soo much i wish you the best and i hope they can find out what is causing you these symptoms, i know first hand what it feels like. |
