| Hi all, I've been on percs 10/325 now for about a year and a hlf (spine fusion). I've been taking 2 sometimes 3 a day. My doc did not mail my script on time, I'm assuming it'll come tomorrow. I took my last one Friday and it's now Sunday, I slept for about 2 hours last night and have been feeling terrible, headaches cold shivers etc. I'm hoping I'll start feeling better soon. Hot baths and eating decent seem to help. My heart goes out to all of you out there.... |

I will try to keep this short. I am tired of the physicians in the world that are on the crusade to rid the world of narcotic pain medication users. There is a reason that pharmaceutical companies develop drugs like percocet, vicodin, methadone, morphine, and others: THEY WORK! Standard OTC pain relievers do NOT treat the majority of pain related issues. That is why someone spent millions in research costs to discover a medication that does work. Understandably, these medications are addictive, but that is not the problem. The problem begins when someone who NEEDS these medications are unable to obtain them at will. They are forced to put their faith into a medical professional whom they do not have a personal relationship with. These doctors come in 2 categories and I have encountered both. One is the doctor who is willing to prescribe any medication to anyone regardless of moral debate. The other is the doctor that refuses to prescribe the medication a patient needs to live comfortably, whether it is to ease pain or to get high.
This is the United States of America. Land of the Free, Home of the Brave, and a democracy were people have the God-given right to make decisions on their OWN. Now, I know our government has dubbed these medication as Class IV substances and that the law is the law, but we don't have to agree with them. The medical community does have a voice in politcal debates and this should NOT be one of them. People should be left with the RIGHT to make the decision to take these medications or not. Restrction is not the key, education is!
Enjoying the feeling a pain medication provides you is NOT a horrible or an immoral issue. If it is, then maybe there should be a required prescription for the purchase of alcohol and cigarettes. (By the way, those two SUBSTANCES are responsible for more deaths than any other known drug, illegal or not!)
| Whatsupdoc wrote: | Actually, I don't care if I offend either of you, flowergirl & chachi. Chachi, your response was totally without sympathy and it does appear that you are not only laughing at this poor individual for allegedly "giving away drugs to be held" but also that he was in unnecessary pain and he's now lost a previously trusted friend. Sounds like you're a lot like this person's friend yourself ... you don't care who you hurt and apparently take great pleasure from others misfortunes. Hope you never get into a situation where you actually need narcotics after surgery. You might be surprised by the pain and the ease of dependance or addiction.
As for you, Flowergirl, are you a doctor, a nurse or a lawyer??? Obviously not or you wouldn't be ignorent enough to say that it's not illegal for someone to hold your meds for you. Sorry dear, but it most certainly is. The Feds look at this as "drug distribution," no matter how one chooses to classify it. Percocet is a Schedule II controlled drug under the F.D.A. It is that way for a reason -- high abuse potential. You can't even have your doctor call it in to the drug store, but must have a written script. As far as you or anyone else "giving someone narcotics to hold" or you holding narcotics for your friends, sounds like you are an admitted addict and not in any position to give advice to anyone else. Surely you aren't naive enough to think you're not breaking federal drug enforcement laws by "holding meds for others and then taking them only if your friend doesn't need it." This is absolutely against the law and anyone who tries to fool you into thinking otherwise clearly is as dumb as you are or doesn't have your best interest at hand. Stop lying to yourself for once in your life. You should know that taking prescription drugs that are not prescribed to you is against the law and means you could be charged with a felony and be convicted AND go to federal prison. Even being caught with prescription narcotics that obviously don't belong to you without a prescripion (or not having them in the bottle they came in from the pharmacy) can get you arrested. I suggest you try to clean up your OWN drug addiction and illegal behavior and not try to talk anyone else into believing your obvious lies about innocently "holding" someone else's prescription.
And yes, by the way, I AM a physician.
| flowergirl34 wrote: | No ofyfense BUT this person was still druged from surgery and this so called friend knew it! I have lupas, migrains and pain throughout my body and sometimes feel I am addicted to percocet for the last 3 years but there is one thing I know for sure, I would never do that to a friend who I knew may need them. They weren't given away, they were supposed to be held until he or she knew if they were needed.
AND Tell me,,,,,,, how do you damn well know deep inside????? I don't wear a sign saying I enjoy taking percocet and although some people know,,,,,,,,,,only because I told them,,,,most people don't.
Your reply is rediculous! I have had friends offer me left over percs and I have allways said, make sure your pain is under control. Although I do need them for pain and get a prescription, there are times when I don't need them, I just enjoy it but not at a freinds expense!
Obviously this person felt they had trust him and it is not illegal for someone to hold your meds for you. How awful that you would HaHaHa not only someones physical pain but the emotional pain of thinking you had a friend that could be trusted. He persuaded this person while they were still druged up. Friends don't do that to friends! If I needed them that badly I would say it. I have held some for a friend and although I was out and wanted them, I didn't take them because she was my friend. If someone thinks of their pleasure before a friends pain, then they are addicts and therefore can not be a true friend until they care enough about others and above all, themselves. I would drop this so called friend.
There are many people who would not do what he did!
!!!!!!!!!Wow.....with friends like that....who needs enemies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| Chachi wrote: | | no offense but YOU are the one who gave them to him therefore making you an enabler no matter how "mad" you are now. Don't say you didn't know either because you know damn well that the possibility of your friend taking them was real. Deep down you know and you gave them to him anyway....hence making you just as rediculous as your friend. Not to mention that giving away a controlled substance is ILLEGAL. If you are as stand up as you say you are then you wouldn't have given your friend the drugs just based on the fact that they are illegal. hahhahahah, your post.....Now I've read everything. Don't blame others for your stupid mistakes and now you won't trust your friend who let us not forget did NOT rip you off even though he has apologized. Wow.....with friends like you....who needs enemies LOL |

I have only been taking Percocets for about 5 months straight. And yes i had no problem, just wanted to take them to "feel good". I started taking a Percocet 5, then Percocet 10 then Percocet 30 (but only half of it). Then towards the end i took half of the 30 then 3 hours later took the other half. Then i realized i had to stop. And i did it cold turkey! (which isnt good),
I am going through withdrawl right now and its horrible. And i havent even dont them for that long. I stopped about two weeks ago and yesterday almost two weeks later im going through a bad withdrawl. And it sucks because i got to work going through this but my bills are more important then my addiction.
Yesterday i got a fever. My whole body was hot. Yet i was cold and was shaking while i was laying down constantly. My eyes were burning really bad. I thought at first this was allergies but as the condition got worse i realized i was going through withdrawl. I didnt think i would go through this i guess for the fact that i really didnt take them for that long. My friend that is a doctor told me that your body can actually get "hooked" after three weeks! Man i was stupid! As im typing this im going through this withdrawl pretty bad. Good luck and hopefully with all can get through the withdrawls. |

| I am terrified right now, I have been taking percocet for a while now for degenerative disk disease with 3 herniations. My scripts never last. They want me to take them every 6 hours, but I am in a lot of pain again after 3, My epidural injection isn't until the end of june. I have gone two days before without it and was so sick and in so much pain I wanted to put a bullet in my head. I am going to try to make an emergency appointment w/ my Dr. on monday. Hopefully he can prescribe something that will help. If you have any ideas, I am wide open... |

| I forgot to say this// I have taken the percs since Aprul 2005. //I am a disabled 60 year old vet.The VA gives me 4 number 5 mg oxycodone per day. 120 a month. They mail them to me. I stockpile them because I live overseas and the VA only will mail the pills to my USA address. I take 2.5 pills per day blah blah... so, now I have about 1,200 extra pills. I stop taking them about 6 hours ago. Actually my ;ast pill was 10 pm last night and the next day, this day, the latest time I take a pill is at noon and one again at 2pm. It is 6pm and I have had no pill today and I feel absolutely horrible. It is June 1st and my goal was to STOP depending on these pills. They throw my psyic off. I react differently to lifes situations whether I just took a pill or need a pill 2 or 3 hours later. I might break a pill in half to stop this fuzzy mind I have now. I might have a drink of vodka. I have not had even one drink n many years, not my thing, but i need some relief. I did 'stop' the percs November last year for 16 days. I vividly remember how miserable I was for about 9 days. I also remember how great I felt afterwards. Also, I was finally able to use the toilet for a bowel movement. everyday of mu life I must take an enema and I hate it! Sorry to gross you out! Sorry if several words are mis spelled as I have no eye glasses and my mind is very fuzzy with pain and confusion form no perc today. I got an email from my USA friend that checks my mail yesterday and I have 2 more months percs waiting for me.I wish I had the gumpton to tell the doc NO MORE percs, but I am weak for that peace to you folks.... |

| meto 81--I to was on-4 pills per day- the 5mg/325 aspirin-but I recently had the VA only give me the 5 mg Oxycodone without the aspirin. I felt I was consuming to much aspirin in so many Oxy pills. The pill is very small, the 5 mg Oxy without aspirin. I am now trying to stop the pills, this day. My last pill was at 10 pm last night, Saturday-it has been 23 hours, now-since I had a pill of Oxy. ( I live in Estonia, Baltics , so I am plus 7 hours from USA EST). I of course fell very fuzzy in the head and jittery. I have .5 mg prescribed Lorazepam. I have taken 3 of those pills since last night. They really do help with the pain and misery of my Oxy detox. My problem, is I have hundreds of 5 mg Oxys in a drawer where I live. These are all legal . It is sort of illegal to stockpile, but I am away from the USA for several months at a time between doc visits. Anyway, I would suggest take a Xanax to relieve your misery. Also, do not argue with anyone and unplug your phone and take a lot of showers or baths. Sort of a distraction. I just drank a jug of fruit juice and ate dried apricots with the juice. Simple foods and easy to digest. I know that I am an opiate addict. But, for now, I am tired of depending on these pills everyday of my life. I know I have made bad decisions when 'high' on Oxys and I say things, to friends or strangers, that I later regret. I want to get back to the 'old' me, for better or worse, and be in control of my manners and attitudes and not depend on a pill(s).I also want to have more success when going to the toilet for a 'sit down' relief.. Best to you.... |

I had taken roxicet, and sometimes oxy, everyday for about 1 1/2 years. Even before it became an everyday habbit, I was taking about 100mg every week for nearly two years. Before quitting I was snorting about 100mg per day, a very expensive habit.
I have now been off the drugs for two months. The withdrawal symptoms are difficult to manage, but even after such a long period of use, they only lasted about 7 days. I will admit that mild withdrawal effects were felt for an entire month, but nothing extremely difficult. The first week was very difficult. The most troubling withdrawal symptoms were the intense muscle pain and the heart palpitations (felt like my body was trying jump out of my skin). Stinky poop too
It is possible to overcome the addiction and beat the withdrawal symptoms. For me, it was very important to have supportive people around (not just message boards, but real caring people). In my case, I had many friends but most of them also abused. I finally told my parents about my problem. I am 25 and this was really hard to do. Especially since I they believed that I was doing really well. I was an accountant at a prominent accounting firm earning $60,000 per year, owned a condo, and had little debt (no savings though:)
I carefully thought about my situation and realized the importance. I realized that I most importantly needed to remove myself from the drug environment, a city I had lived in for nearly 8 years. I sold the condo, for a gain, and moved back in with my parents. This was very hard since I had lived on my own for nearly 8 years, but they lived in a city that was over a three hour drive from my drug environment. Had I not removed myself from my current circle, I am not sure that quitting would have been nearly as easy, or even possible. I recognize that not every one can move and leave the drug environment, but it important to leave the dysfunctional friends behind. Again, find a supportive person, like a relative or spouse and be honest with them. Confide in them. You will be bored and must make certain difficult sacrafices, but it gets easier each day.
I not only did opiads but also enjoyed cocaine (hard and soft), xanax, adderall, and pot. I quit everything. I was bored, but focused my energy on improving my tennis game and studying for the GMAT (scored a 690) y accepted to a top tier MBA program. I am excited at the educational experiences ahead, but I most excited that the school is in another state. I will not fall back into my bad habits, but will look to the future with optimism and hope. I seek to change my thought patterns. I used work hard to support my enjoyment of an alterted conciouness, but not I intend to work hard for the legal things that most people work for. Like shoes or something.
My advice:
(1) find a supportive person - relative or spouse - and be honest and use their support
(2) remove yourself from the environment as much as you can. This may seem impossible, but most jobs are in many different cities. Remember, this is life or death. If you cannot move, you must still remove yourself. Even if this induces boredom or results in solitude. Again, this is life and death.
(3) stay active. Physical activity is important. Hobbies are also important. Occupy your time. Learn tennis or take piano lessons. Take up video games. Learn to play chess well. Take flying lessons. Read. Buy an RC helicopter. Write poetry. Fly fish. Whatever it is, do something. Plan your activities the night before!
And lastly, SELF-REFLECTION!
GOOD LUCK! YOU CAN DO IT! Trust me....I swear that I was as bad as it gets. Well maybe not as bad as it gets, but bad (snorting an average of 100mg everyday is bad). Even with my fully developed problem and its' long history, the intense withdrawal symptoms lasted only one week (mild symptoms for one month). But that is the easy part.....Readjusting your life is the hard part, but is necessary. Day by day, step by step!!! |

In none of your posts were mentioned the dosage. I take 5 mg of Methadone (1/2 per nite = 2 1/2 mg) at nite. Thru the day I take Oxy-codone (5 mg) 2x per day.
I take them for joint pain caused in a wreck. My doctors say stay at this low dosage and no problems - am now quitting gradually as even at low dosage they affect my head (dizzy) and my ears (practically close them). Good luck!! |

| I was off percocets for a month. On suboxen. Then I quit the suboxen. I was doin ok for about a week and then I was feeling really depressed and anxious and caved and bought 10. I thought I could control myself. I didn't take more than 3 a day and now for only 5 days. Why am I experiencing full bllown withdrwel again? And from such a small amount for such a short period of time, how long do you think it will take to run out of me? Maybe only 2 or 3 days? |
