Hello,
My sister had a seizure yesterday. It was pretty freaky. She is 13 now. Is it normal for teenage girl to have an epilepsy seizure?
Thanks in advance!

Hello,
teenage years are a time of great change and your sister experienced it in a certain way. This seizure was maybe one of many and she will in future develop epilepsy, maybe not, you could just guess. Just because someone has a seizure does not necessarily mean that person has epilepsy. Seizures can be triggered in anyone under certain conditions, such dehydration or high temperature. But when a person experiences repeated seizures for no obvious reason, that person is said to have epilepsy.
Usually people develop it in their teenage years, some even later after 20ties. Many people develop epilepsy as children or teens. Others develop it later in life. For some people with epilepsy, especially children, the seizures eventually become less frequent or disappear altogether.
I would also like to tell you that epilepsy affects more than 2, 5 million Americans and more than 180,000 people are diagnosed with epilepsy every year.
