I have a 7 yr old son with Bipolar Disorder. His pdoc has recently seen him and asked that we give the Tegratol a try. What advice can you give me about this med?

Hi
I took Tegratol for eight years as a young adult in association with addison's disease and depression. Which i eventually grew out of needing It was very good medication for me with few side effects
but I would be extra cautious on such a young child
How reliable is the diagnosis of bi-polar ?
