Hi, I am 43 years old woman, and I’m an alcoholic. It has been one week since I had a last drink. I feel depressed, and I have to take some medicine. What do you think is better, tergetol or amitriptyline?

I used tergetol for alcohol withdrawal. I was having a hard time, and I needed something to calm me down. I was having seizures, and this drug helped me a lot. However, I started having some side effects and problems with kidneys, so I had to stop. I had to find another drug for depression, and a friend recommended me amitriptyline. I started with 75 mg daily, and I gradually increased it to 200 mg. I have to say not only that amitriptyline helped me as well as tergetol, but I had no side effects at all. Tergetol was helpful when I had to deal with the seizures of withdrawal, and amitriptyline helped me with depression that occurred later.
