Hi, my mother is suffering from Temporal arteritis. It is also called giant cell arteritis, an inflammatory condition damaging the blood vessels which supply the head, eyes, and optic nerves. Senior citizens over 60 years of age are mostly affected by temporal arthritis, and women have 4 time greater chances to develop the disease. It is characteristic, that the vessels in the temple and scalp to become swollen and tender. Complications include vision loss, but if it continuous to progress arteries in other areas of the body can be effected too. Vision is endangered, when the inflamed arteries decrease blood flow to the eyes and optic nerves.
