Hi, my child is celebrating it’s 5th birthday, and he will have lung surgery two days before birthday. The big day is approaching, and he is getting nervous and excited. Who to calm him down, since I am upset too?

Hi, certainly it is not easy to control feeling in these situations, but I suppose that a surgery really needs to be done, so better now then latter. You can try to make him a birthday in hospital. There are many other children there who would also enjoy attending a birthday party, and having some nice moments. Even, if they are not familiar with each other, a professional clown or animator can make them all play together. Try to make it as easier as possible for him. After all, he doesn’t have to feel like he is dead sick, but just having a small intervention.
