Hi, I a m diagnosed with TMJ. And doctor proposed me surgical treatment as the best option for permanently solving the problem. What are other treatment options, non-invasive as surgery?
Except surgical treatment there are also non-surgical options. Generally, first non-surgical methods are applied and only after that surgery is done as the last option. Depending on the severity of the disorder different methods can be applied like: intra-oral splint, physical therapy treatment like ultra-sound, anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxants or other medications applicable to the case. Splint is widely used way to deal with fitting of either the upper or lower jaw, and in some cases to both. It’s purpose is to re-position the condyle head in the joint space to a more normal position.
