Throat aches on left side only for over a week

Hi, im an 18 year old male and ive had a sore throat for over a week now. I look and see that its swollen and inflamed on my left side and it only hurts on my left side. I recently went to my campus med center and the doctor took a look down my throat and then just perscribed me Cephalexin and Guaifenex. Ive taken the medication for almost a week now and there is absolutely no change in the pain. It still hurts when I swallow and and aches in general. Any suggestions as to what I should do would be very much appreciated!
