I have experienced numbness and tingling sensation in my left hand. It happens off and on and it feels as if the fingers have "fallen asleep". Could this be a blocked blood vessel located in my hand? I have had this problem for 3 months now and it does not seem to get any better.
A problem such as yours certainly calls for a visit to the doctor. From what you described I guess it could be Carpal tunnel syndrome. It starts gradually -- at first, one notices numbness and tingling, intermittently, in the thumb and first two fingers of the affected hand. What happening are the tendons or tissues surrounding the wrist become swollen; consequently, the swelling causes compression of the nerve that passes through the "tunnel" formed by the wrist bones and a ligament.
