how did they find out that it was the sugar that was the issue? There is sugar in so many things. Does that mean also that nautral sugars like in fruits cause problems also??
hmmmm wondering if that could be part of our problem. I know the lactose was part of the problem but there is something else I just cant pinpoint it. |

| my son started having loose stools 5-7 times a day at 13 months (he is now 20 months) his stools first came back positive for cdiff. He was treated a total of 3 times to clear the cdiff up due to it relapsing. Still he was having foul smelling loose stools all day. He would wake up in the am with stool all in his crib, etc. Went the pediatric gi route they did the whole work up...blood work, upper gi, colonoscopy, egd all came back NEG. Which is a great thing but my questions is why at 20 months are we still with loose stools. We did cut back his fluid intake, which is helping a little. All the MD's say is that he has nonspecific chronic diarrhea. To me that seems like a catch all 22 diagnosis. Any advice??? |

| Wow, I felt completely alone with all these until now. My 20 month old son has had constant diarrhea from birth. He is healthy, active, not dehyderated at all and above average for height and weight for his age. Its just a mystery to all of us. Someone told me about something called Primadopilis (sp) powder that I may try. I just wanted to say good luck with this, its so hard to deal with this day in and day out. |

I am going through the same thing with my daughter. She is 4yo now but has had chronic diarrhea since she was about 2. Mostly she complains of cramps and often has a distended stomach. But otherwise seems to be eating, growing and gaining weight normally. She is the youngest of 3 and is the only one with any problem.
I've taken her to see a couple different pediatricians and a pediatric gastroenterologist. The have done numerous blood tests and a stool test. All tests have come back "normal" and the celiac tests have come back negative. I've tried tracking her diet for a few weeks and taken her off all dairy. Nothing has seemed to help. Even had her on medicine for IBD which should have at least curbed the symptoms, but to the surprise of her DR, it didn't help at all.
Right now we are waiting for the blood tests results to food allergies and I have another appointment with the pediatric gastroenterologist.
I was thinking maybe a parasite? I just don't know and the Drs are just guessing at this point.
Any insight, experience or advice would be greatly appreciated!! |

My 3 yo daughter never had a formed poop andwent 6-8 times a day with explosive diarreah. We were back and forth to doctors constantly. She did have an edoscopy and colonoscopy finally this year. They found she cannot process SUGAR at all. She has been on a sugar free diet as well as SuCRAID now for a couple of months and is improving. From what I understand this is not common at all but like most heard it was toddlers diahrreah etc. and got no relief.
I had to really be an advocate for her but I think we finally have some real answers. Good luck! |
My son is 33 months old and has had chronic diarrhea his entire life. Until recently all my pediatricians just dismissed it for different reasons...breastfed babies have more frequent stools, he still seems to be healthy, juice even though he wasn't drinking juice, etc. etc. Finally he was diagnosed with sucrase isomaltase deficiency disorder this fall. He can't process sugars (disaccharides to be specific). He also had severe esophogitis. He was put on a restrictive diet (no sugars/disaccharides), given prevacid, and put on prednisone (a steroid) to try to help clear things up. It did start to clear up, but now that he's coming off the steroids it seems to be coming back... he's not sleeping at night now - I think his stomach hurts, but can't tell for sure (he's developmentally delayed and can't speak/communicate beyond very basic things). He's getting diaper rash again... potty training is pretty much impossible until we get this cleared up... My dr hasn't mentioned sucraid at this point...does anyone know anything more about it? |

I have been sitting here reading all of these posts.
Has anyone gotten any answers?
My son's diarreha started maybe when he was 14 months old. he is now 19 mths old.
I think every test has been done, blood, stool, sweat test, celiac, etc. minus the Gi test, the Gi Doc did a belly x ray, and we are now testing for c dif, which I don;t see how he could have that, but...., and we are testing for Giardia, another, eh, probably not, in my book, but I'm not a Doc.
We have done the milk switch thing, which still doesn't/didn't seem to help, I got to reading on another web site about all these other scary things, can a baby have pancreatic cancer??!!!
The whole sugar intolerance issue is interesting. Has anyone else had their little ones tested for that? I think one such test is a D-xylose.
Good god, what do we do?
I guess just don't by "it's toddlers diarreha", well has anyones ass ever been on fire from going to much? Just think of how these little people feel.
I was afraid at one point that he was going to get an open sore. But his bum is actaually very clear, never really had that problem.
I worry about weight gain, he toggles between 24-25 pounds, and is 32 inches tall, very active, eats like a horse. No or never any signs of feeling bad.
Liike I said the Docs are trying, but don't seem majorly concerned.
I need help I'll give my email if anyone has any insight, sorry to vent

|
|
| Wow, these postings are both comforting and alarming..my daughter is 3 1/2 and to my recollection has had loose stools her entire life and a little distended tummy. I was never really concerned, as the doctors didn't seem to be, but lately she's been waking up in the middle of the night complaining of stomach cramps. I rub her tummy and was worried some of it was just a ploy to stay up but can't really tell! I was going to call the Dr. but did a Google search first, to see if there were other folks out there with the same problems. Please keep posting and keep us updated on solutions/diagnosis, etc. I'll do the same. |

| okay guys my son also had very loose bowels it was a nightmare. After going to many doctors I figured it out. He had every blood test and allergy test out there. Based on one test the doctor thought he has celia desease it turns out he has a wheat intolence and a problem digesting apples. I took the two items out of his diet and now he is fine, his stomach went down and his bowels are normal. The momnet he gets a wheat cookie or an apple--loose bowels again. Your children probably have a food intolence, which doctor know little about. There are all sort of great gluten free products out there. I still give him corn and potatoe products and trader joes has great gluten free pancakes... yum yum..I also have irratable bowel disease and are also gluten free. I hope this helps. You can email if you have questions. emcqueen@yahoo.com |
