I first realized that I had Tonsil Stones when I was in high school. I sneezed and one flew out of my mouth. At that tme, I did not know what it was, but it smelled really bad. I am now thirty-five years old and I still get them. I thought that I was the only one who had this probem, but a friend of mine also gets them. I did not know what the were until I watched a news special about them. To get rid of them I use a q-tip to push the side of the tonsil and they usually pop out. Lately, I have been using a hair clip to get deeper into my tonsil. I noticed that they are growing more and they grow deeper into my tonsil. I am considering seeing a doctor about it.

I'm sure everyone here is suffering from the awful stones, but I'm sure no one has them as bad as I do. I have chronic allergies about as bad as one can get. And just about everytime I have a nasal allergy flareup (Practically every week of the year) .. I get tonsil stones. I keep some type of tonsil infection, and I keep a non stop post nasal drip down the back of my throat even while taking meds to dry it up
Although I've had allergies all my life, they got much worse when I turned 30. At that time the Tonsil Stones started. So now for 15 years, I have not been able to comfortably kiss my wife, or get around anyone without severely offending them with the Tonsil Stones odor. I want to be rid of them, but my doctor tells me tonsilectomy at 45 is dangerous. I have this foul taste in my mouth 24/7. I use the Grossman irrigator all the time to get some relief, but they are back within 3 hours. I'm almost at a lost in what to do over this .. and don't know where to turn. I went to an ENT ... and this guy tried to tell me I was stressed! That was incorrect, and had nothing to do with the constant mucous lump, constant back of throat nasal drip, and nothing to do with the awful cauliflower chunks stuck to the back of my throat.
My allergioes are so severe and my throat stays in such constant infection that I can lose my voice easily when at a ball game. Here's the thing though ... I only get them on my left side. I guuess its more pitted than the other side beccause they only form on the left side.
My breath is so bad, and only my wife knows what I'm suffering with . Co workers, friendsa and everyone else just think I'm this S*it breathed person who doesn't take care of my oral hygiene.
This is bad .. worse than I can describe. I need my tonsils removed but I don't want to put myself at risk to do so.
Anyone have any help?

I feel sorry for the guy in the above post! Tonsil Stones are an embarrasing problem.

Somebody recommended Dr. Katz products. He has a whole regimen of products designed for great oral health and to get rid of and prevent tonsil stones. I sometimes use the TheraBreath rinse. It really seems to help.

Also I read (hey, wait, I think I read it on Dr. Katz's phamplet!) to stay well hydrated. Dehydration is a cause of tonsil stones, he claims.

Also, to the man in the above post, if you have such bad allergies, have you seen an allergist? I too had near constant post-nasal drip . . .and didn't even realize it. Once my allergist put me on an antihistimine-decongestant, the PND went away! I'm surprised your ENT didn't suggest something.

I'm having a small outbreak of tonsil stones, the first in a long time, and I think it's due to a change in my allergy medication. I briefly stopped one of my prescription drugs, and within four days had PND, sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes. . .and now tonsil stones, probably due to the PND.

I think the "treatment" of Tonsil Stones is a multi-prong approach: staying hydrated, good oral hygenie (Dr. Katz products), and eliminating nasal and sinus problems. Someone mentioned a sinus rinse. I use NeilMed Sinus Rinse (non-prescription and quite affordable) -- my ENT recommended it! It seems to help me stay clearer.

PostPosted: 06/20/07 - 21:19    Post subject: tonsil terds Vote now! Reply with quote

I think you descibed it perfect all of you. The cotage cheese, terds, all of it. For the past week or so I have been unable to clear my throat completely. I have been getting this nasty, dead taste in my mouth. I have had them before I knew what was happening, buut the other day maybe Sunday, my right lower jaw started hurting right at the edge.bottom of my jawline/bone so I woke this monring and my "gland" on the right side of my neck has what seems to be a knot. I was wondering if you thik these Tonsil Stones may be the culprit, maybe one is lodged and real infected. The knot is hard and sore. Athough my throat isn't sore at ll, just my jaw. Any suggestions?? I don't currently have med insurance so I can't just up and go to the Dr. I have just been really worried all day. Thanks~~

Im just posting on this board now, though the messages seem to be from awhile back-hopefully someone will read this and find it useful.

I just recently started discovering these annoying things in the back of my throat, in my tonsils, and they make swallowing uncomfortable, especially when my throat is dry. I read these message boards and did what people said "use a water pic" or "press on your tonsil with a q-tip or finger" but when i did that i got nervous and felt like i did damage.

So i went to my doctor and told him and he said whatever you do, DO NOT do any of those two things because you could cause an infection or damage something by pressing on your tonsils. Keep in mind, your fingers are loaded with bacteria and such and im sure a q-tip is no cleaner. So he told me to just gargle. If they are that bad i would suggest seeing a specialist so they can tell you how to treat them.

But dont listen to the idiots on these boards.

well, I have found that a chopstick works for me better than a Q-tip. I push on the tonsil next to the tonsil stone. The shocking thing about these Tonsil Stones is that I got one out, and then the hole immediately filled up with more gunk. I was like "How much gunk is in this hole anyway?"

I resorted to the chopstick because simply leaving it in was causing me to cough. Gargling hasn't helped.

Shocked WOW!!! yeah, i ,like everyone here, have had the same problem! usually i would just be talking to a friend or something and randomly i'd cough it up.. then i figured "oh that was is finally gone" and thought only one formed at a time.. i just started pushing around in the whole above my tonsil TODAY and BAM i had about 5 push their nasty way out JUST on the LEFT side.. i looked at the right side (and even though there was no white spot to be seen) i pushed back there and about 3 huge ones came out! GGRROOSSS!!! Mad i know.. but like everyone said.. my throat feels more clear and better.. i never even knew they were back there.. im hoping also my breath with be better now! haha i have no soreness of my throat or swelling.. so i figure it's not a problem.. and thanks to this forum.. i feel much better knowing im not the only one!!! Very Happy

Hi, i've had them for around a year or so, and they come in bouts every few weeks or even months. i found that the best way to get rid of Tonsil Stones was not a tonsillectomy, but just taking a flash light, shining it at the tonsils and probing around with an ear currette. i found the cup at the end helped remove the tonsils
