Total Blindness-Could It Be Temporary?

My grandmother is blind! She is 77 years old and has glaucoma. In the beginning, she did not have any problems with eyesight, in spite of her condition. Eyesight has been slowly deteriorating and one morning she woke up in a total blindness â€“ could it be temporary? Is the glaucoma cause of her condition?

Yes it is. And probably, removing the glaucoma will restore her eyesight. Glaucoma usually damages retina which causes problems with eye sight, sometimes complete blindness. I do hope that in your grandmother's case retina is not fully damaged. I assume that she went to the doctor and that he gave her the same conclusion. Glaucoma removal is a standard procedure today, so if retina is ok, she must feel improvement right after the operation.
