| Hello! My aunt suffers from arthritis. When she feels pain in her joints she usually takes Naproxen since her doctor prescribed it. She takes it as her doctor told her and she always feels much better. Her friend came to visit her yesterday and she told her she was using Tramadol which was, according her opinion, much better then Naproxen. I don’t see the difference between these two drugs. They are both painkillers, aren’t they? |

| Hi! Both Naproxen and Tramadol are used to treat pain, but there are many differences between them. Naproxen belongs to the group of non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and it is usually used to treat pain and inflammation caused by conditions as arthritis, spondylitis, bursitis, acute gout or menstrual cramps. It can increase the risk of circulation and gastrointestinal problems and it is not taken in pregnancy and while breast feeding. Tramadol is a narcotic-like pain reliever used to treat moderate to sever pain conditions. Taking alcohol while on tramadol may be very dangerous. It can also be habit-forming and a patient shouldn’t stop with tramadol suddenly since withdrawal symptoms may occur (anxiety, sweating, diarrhea, chills, hallucinations) which is not the case with Naproxen. Tramadol is also not the drug which should be used in pregnancy and while breast-feeding. |
