Transverse Mylelits by children

Hi, my friend’s child was diagnosed with transverse Mylelits. In a few days he lost ability to move his legs. What are prognosis for children with this disease?

Hi, you are talking of a serious disease called Transverse Myelitis. It is a neurological disorder of the spine, due to the spinal cord inflammation. Function of spinal cord below level of infection is lost, and upper parts of spinal cord perform their action as before. Parts of body inervated by affected areas of spinal cord experience movement and sensory disorders. The disease has fast onset, typically beginning of symptoms occurs over the course of several hours, days, or weeks.
The disorder can occur on a single occasion, although in some cases recurrence is also seen. The initial occurrence, can be followed with recovery after several weeks or months. The degree of recovery achieved varies from case to case.
