Hi, I'm 43 years old and I have had problems with hemeroids for about 3 years now. I was using antihemorrhoidal cremes to treat the outer hemeroids that I had, and I tried to stick to the advices given to me by my doctor about diet and my habits. Still hemeroids keep on reoccurring and I don’t know what to do about them. At my last examination the doctor said that I have also internal hemeroids, whatever they may be, and that they require surgery. What is the difference between the internal and external hemeroids and will the surgery finally solve my problems?

Hemeroids are deviated veins in the rectal area that become congested and constipated and that causes great pain and discomfort to the sufferers. The term hemorrhoid is not an adequate term to describe this condition, hemeroids are present in every normal rectum, this condition forms when hemeroids become dilated. There are two types of hemeroids: internal and external. As I see you had only external hemeroids that are present on the rectal orifice itself. Internal hemeroids are placed deeply in the rectum and they can't be seen from the outside unless they protrude through the rectum. They usually bleed and only the surgical procedure can solve that problem. There are many types of surgeries ranging from the classical surgical excision to the sclerotherapy and IR therapy. That will solve the problem of hemeroids in the short period of time, but they will reoccur if you don’t follow your doctors instructions. For further instructions and recommendations you should consult your doctor and follow his advice. Good luck.
