In June of 2005, I underwent anterior cervical spine fusion surgery. I have a plate, 6 screws, and artificial disk material between vertebra C5, C6, C7
1 year later, I returned to my orthopaedic surgeon because of cracking sounds. X-ray revealed the hardware appeared to be in same position.
It is now another year+ later. Cracking is unintentional with slightest movement, and more frequent. Most of the cracking and movement seems to be coming from "above" the plate.
Additionally, my neck muscles burn with pain. Are they trying to "keep everything in place"?
What is going on? Should I be concerned that something is wrong with my neck again?
I am a 44 year old female with a previous cervical spine decompression surgery in 1999. This was due to narrowing of disk space and herniations. This surgery was done from the back of my neck by a neurosurgeon. |
