Most people don’t even know that women too can suffer from sexual dysfunctions. Women are not subject to the same kind of stigma that a man is subjected to due to dysfunction. Most women do not make an issue of their problems while consulting a doctor.
Some sex therapists divide sexual dysfunction in women into four categories: low sexual desire, sexual arousal disorder, orgasmic disorder and sexual pain disorder.
On the other hand, there are therapists who question female sexual dysfunction and consider this diagnosis as a way for pharmaceutical companies to create new markets.
Speaking of pharmaceutical companies and new markets, Pfizer’s Executive Director Peter Ellis announced that his company is working on the Viagra pill for women. He said that this process is difficult because many factors need to be included in the pill like desire, arousal and pain issues.
Although trials and studies for such a drug are already being conducted at the UK laboratory of Pfizer, the first molecule is not expected to be ready until the year 2012. |
