I have been experiencing back pain problems for, what it seems my entire life. I have never paid much attention to it because the pain was never serious, more like tingling and small spasm and it always lasted for no more then several minutes. But, since I started with office job several weeks ago, things got complicated. Those minutes went to almost an hour, and spasms make me almost unable to walk. Friend suggested Vicodan as a pain reliever, but I am afraid to take anything without a doctor (I have scheduled for next week). Can you tell me something more about Vicodan?

Vicodin, and all other pain relievers should not be taken without a good reason and doctors prescription. It is a combination of acetaminophen (reduces the level of substances that stimulates pain nerves) and hydrocodone (binds itself to the receptors in brain responsible for pain relieving). As you see, these are no simple chemicals that could cause several side effects like breathing difficulties, allergic reactions, mood changes, tiredness, anxieties. That is why you must consult with the doctor first before taking any rush steps.
