| I have Von Willebrand's disease and therefore have very irregular periods, like once every 6 months and sometimes even longer than that. I was wondering if ovulation is occurring or not. I just want to know if I am able to have a baby or not. I also have no idea when I would be able to test for pregnancy since I am not able to use my periods as a guide. I am extremely bloated and have a couple other symptoms but a home pregnancy test has come out negative and so has a blood test. I read about a woman who did not test positive until she was six weeks along though...Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! |

Hey i have von willebrand disease too and before when i was first diagnosed i went to the hospital and i was on birth control pills for about 2 years. birth control pills control the bleeding. after the 2 years my bleeding was normal i no longer bleed for more then 7 days. go to the hospital and check which vonwillebrand you have because theres the ones that are serious or the ones where it feels like u dont even have vonwillebrand. |

I have von Willebrand as well, but I was not diagnosed until after my second child came along. During his birth, the doctors were not able to stop the bleeding, and I wound up having a blood transfusion. THAT'S when they decided to test me for it. I apparently have had it my whole life, but never knew. I always wondered why my periods were so heavy, especially since I'm a very small person.
So in answer to your question - you should have no problem getting pregnant, but make sure that your hematologist talks to you OB before birth to prevent any life-threatening situations from arising.
