It is not necessary to take Warfarin with food. However, you should take Warfarin with a full glass of water.

Vitamin K may affect Warfarin and a balanced diet with a consistent amount of Vitamin K should be maintained while on Warfarin.

There are some foods and medications you should avoid when taking warfarin.

1. Do not consume cranberry products while taking Warfarin.
2. Do not take Warfarin if you have recently taken bromelains, coenzyme Q10, danshen, dong quai, garlic, ginkgo biloba, ginseng or St. John's Wart without informing your doctor first.
3. Warfarin interacts with many prescription and over the counter medications, vitamins and herbal remedies. Tell your doctor of anything you are currently taken or have recently taken before taking Warfarin.

One other important piece of information concerning warfarin: Carry an ID card or wear a medical alert bracelet stating that you are taking warfarin, in case of emergency. Any doctor, dentist, or emergency medical care provider who treats you should know that you are taking this medication.
