Hi! Few days ago I had an argument with my colleagues about the causes for cognitive disability. I insisted that most common forms of cognitive disabilities are caused by genetic predispositions but they claim that there are other factors which can affect the person at an early stage of life, such as complications at birth and alcohol consummation during pregnancy?
There are many social, environmental and physical causes for cognitive disability, but the most common are brain injuries or infection before, during or after birth; extreme prematurity of birth; genetic and chromosomal abnormalities; nutritional problems; poor diet and bad or non-existing health care, drug abuse during pregnancy and child abuse.
