What can happened because of lower rib fracture?

My brother has a rib fracture. His doctor explained to us that one of the middle ribs is broken. Then he said also that it’s nothing dangerous and that he had a lucky because the lower rib fracture can make serious complications. What can happened because of lower rib fracture?

I read a lot about rib fracture because my dad had it last year. A lower rib fracture may make an injury of diaphragm or other intra-abdominal organs. It happens very rarely but it can be really dangerous. I’m not sure that I know what treatment is necessary for this kind of fracture.
