What causes false positives on a pregnancy test?

My husband and I have finally decided to have a baby. It took us almost five years to become financially suitable for a house and a car, and now the child. We are both 32 years old so I am a bit worried for myself, will I be able to get pregnant. Anyway, we had a false alarm once, so I am curious. What causes false positives on a pregnancy test?

To be honest, today's pregnancy tests are very accurate, and there are only few cases when the showed false results. Unfortunately, you are one of those.
