Hello! It is diagnosed that my older sister (she is 44 years old) is suffering from lupus nephritis. We have never had this disease in our family in the past, so, I want to know what causes lupus nephritis? I have heard that this disease is very complicate. Is that true? Hello! Lupus nephritis is caused because of Systemic lupus erythematosus or shorter SLE. This is autoimmune disease, which means that antibodies and complement build up in the kidneys cause inflammation of kidneys. This is very complicate disease and must be treated.
