It looks like our youngest family member is in trouble. Still a baby, it seems he cannot absorb galactose, and will be subdued to tests for galactosemia. Can you tell me What does testing for Galactosemia involve? Is that such a severe condition as everyone says it is? Is it possible that he will have health issues his entire life?

Well, considering the fact that this could be a fatal condition, it is extremely necessary for those tests to be done. And they are actually simple. All that is done is measuring the level of the enzymes that should dissolve galactose from the blood. If there aren't any, there is a huge problem in absorbing galactose – galactosemia! And the diet should be applied right away in order to avoid complications (speech problems might happen!).
