Hello, folks. My husband has been diagnosed psoriatic arthritis. He first had had psoriasis and later he developed signs and symptoms of this form of arthritis. I would like to know what drug can alleviate symptoms of this disease. I would really appreciate all your replies. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, there. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are traditionally used to treat psoriatic arthritis. They reduce swelling of the joints and pain. They also reduce stiffed joints. Acetylsalicylic acid and ibuprofen are the most popular ones. Another option is disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs). With these medications doctors try to stop arthritis of getting worse. Those are gold salts, sulfasalazine, methotrexate, hydroxychloroquinine, azathioprine and chloroquinine. Corticosteroids can also be used, but there should be a precaution since they give many side effects. Your husband can also think about Biologic Response Modifiers (“Biologics”). Biologics are DMARDs that are made from genetically transformed proteins. They block cytokines that are responsible for this disease. This therapy is expensive.
