What irreversable problems can galactosemia cause?

Doctors have found out that my son, still a baby suffers from galactosemia. And it seems that for now, there are no complications. We have already started with the diet so all that is left is hope that he will grow up in a healthy young man. I would like to know what irreversible problems galactosemia can cause?

Well, I am not sure when exactly you can be sure that he will not have any consequences. I guess time will show if there is some damage caused by this condition. And we are talking about bone structure problems (density is disturbed, decreased) and sometimes speech is also disturbed. Women might have ovarian issues too.
