What is Dantrolene Sodium?

My son has been admitted to hospital. He was on a business trip so I dont know what happened I have received a phone call from his friend that he is in hospital. Doctors say that he has malignant hyperthermia. They say that he is in danger of having cardiac arrest, brain damage or internal bleeding and that because of that he must receive Dantrolene Sodium. What is Dantrolene Sodium? How it works? Will he always take it intravenously?

Come down madam. I know that you are worried and frightened but I am sure that everything will be OK. My brother also had MH but he is felling good now. Dantrolene Sodium saved him. It is direct acting skeletal muscle relaxant. It works by lowering intracellular calcium concentration in muscles. He don't have to take it intravenously, those patients which react positively to it may be switched to oral dosage.
