Hi! Paraovarian cysts are not actually ovarian, they are usually located along side the ovaries or on the fallopian tubes but they are often hard to distinguish from the ovarian cysts. If they are small and don’t cause any trouble, they are hard to notice, the only way to do so is with the transvaginal examination. They are often mistaken for ovarion cysts.
These cysts are not so common but do appear. They make 10% of all the masses in the adnexal region (ovaries and tubes). These cysts represent remnants of of the Wolfiaan duct that lies parallelly the upper third of the vagina, uterus, and fallopian tubes.
The cysts can grow to be very big and even extend to the upper abdomen. Their size and symptoms do not correspond to the hormonal cycle like other ovarian cysts do.
Paraovarian cysts may be troublesome because they can tear, bleed, rupture and become infected. |

I have been diagnosed with what is suspected to be a paraovarian cyst, 5.3 cm and also have a large fibroid on ultrasound. I am being scheduled to have an MRI because the placement of the fibroid somewho blocked the cul de sac of where the cyst is located.
Of course I am worried because I have two "lumps" in my body. I have discomfort in my pelvis (not severe) and in my legs (near the top) and occationally in my back. Is this anything to worry about?
What I have read suggests that because I am post menopausal, these cysts and fibroid are more suspicisiou> Is this true. Can a doctor see the difference between a fibroid and a malignant tumour on an ultrasound?
I can't help thinking of all the worse possible things, which can't be good for me. And I have to wait until Sept. until I can get anything more done.
Can you give me any reassurance?i |
