Hi, I am 56 years old woman who suffers from cancer. I heard about tomotherapy from a friend, she recommended to me actually. Can you tell me what is tomotherapy?

Hi, my mother is on tomotherapy. Before the treatment, the physician checked the location of her tumor. With 3-D imaging, they established the precise contours for tumor. Then they put my mother in the right position, so the radiation could be directed on the right place. Tomotherapy is combination of IMRT and a helical delivery pattern. A linear accelerator (linac) produces radiation, which travels around the gantry ring. She still goes on tomotherapy, so I can’t tell you if she had any success, but I hope with all my heart that she will. I don’t know if your friend is an expert, but you should talk to your doctor, because s/he will know best if you need this therapy or not.
