| I am suffering from exactly the same problem and it is driving me mad. Some parts of my tongue even look red and feel like I've burned myself. I've had it now for about 4 months non stop. Looking at the internet an awful lot of people seem to be suffering from this problem, so why is there no straight medical explanation for this? My doctor has no idea what is causing this and actually looks at me as if I am making this up. Please someone - help! |

I am having same proplem.
I am dying to know why this is happening, ther has to be something that causes this.
I feel like someone poured a box of salt in my mouth. |
| Quote: | | I have had mine for over a month now. Same thing tastes like a box of salt is in my mouth too. My eyes are also burning, like they are extra salty too. Sometimes I have to pull over while driving because my eyes are burning & watery. I am on a water pill and vitamin B Complex, drinking a lot of water, but to no avail. I also am very puffy most of the time all over, real bad in my legs. All kinds of test done, no answer yet to the cause. HELP!!!!!!! |

| the salty taste could also be an artifact related to mild seizure activity in the brain. i'm not suggesting that this is what your issue is, but it is a possibility. |

| 2nd time this is happening to me. First time, I just quit using salt period. I stopped eating food that tasted salty to me ... even cookies, especially processed sandwich meats. I was told I would get enough sodium from processed foods, but I stayed away from anything processed. I cooked my food ... real food. Months later, I got brown spots in my mouth. I think it was because I was sodium deficient. I started using salt again and I'm back to the same problem more than 1 year later. My mouth burns from the salt in food. What's up with this? |

| Whenever I am very thirsty or have not eaten yet that day, my mouth beings to taste very salty. I first noticed that when I took a big sip of water and thought that someone had tricked me by putting razy amounts of salt in my bottle. But now I know that it is not a trick, I still experience this salty taste in my mouth and on my lips all the time. I think I have not been drinking enough water. Just wanted to post to suggest that anyone who is experiencing this try and drink 2 liters (8cups) of water a day for a week and the problem will probably go away. I do not include salt in my diet, but think that perhaps the salty taste is my body telling me I am thirsty... not sure |

| If you are still having salty taste in your mouth for weeks where even water taste disgusting, you need to make sure you are not taking Lamisil. I had this problem within 6 weeks of taking the drug. It very dangerous drug. Better use a topical treatment for nail fungus |

I too have this problem! I had it it about 7 years ago and finally went to the Taste Clinic in Cincinnati, OH. They ran a number of tests and decided that it was a damaged nerve that was sending a constant signal to my tongue that it was tasting salt. They said eventually the nerve would repair itself and the problem would resolve. And, eventually, it did.
But now, seven years later, it is back! I have a feeling it is somehow related to coffee or tea drinking but I can't really substantiate that with any hard proof!
I do not have any other symptons that some others have mentioned on this thread. It is a really frustrating problem. |

I have been having the same problem of tasting salt all the time. It began around the same time that I had fillings in my upper teeth. The dentist assured me that it has nothing to do with that. I've been to the docotor and he says that my blood work looks fine. Everyone keeps suggesting that I am pregnant but I am not. It is all very frustrating. The docotor at this point is referring me to an allergist and consulting with a neurologist. I am 25 and have never had problems like this before. My friend suggested it maybe an allegry to aspertain, which can alter your sense of taste. I have tried to eliminate that from my diet as well, with so far no luck. Any suggestions would be wonderful. I'm going crazy! |

I too am getting this salty taste, primarily on my tongue and round my lips for several months now and it seems to be getting worse.
I haven't sought medical advice as yet but if anyone can come up with a solution I would be grateful |

Hi all, I am having the same problem, its been going on for a while about 2 years now, it comes and goes. I am a 26 year old smoker that loves coffee and wine. I have noticed that when I drink red wine it gets worse, also when I smoke alot it gets worse. When I dont drink enough water it gets worse.
I recommend alot of water, no wine, no smoking, no coffee, salt is not an issue, infact salt helps with the retention of fluids.
Thats bout it |
