| I was experiencing the same problem - which is how I found this site. I was discussing it with my boyfriend and then I noticed later that night the taste had gone away suddenly. Before I was going to bed I put eyedrops in because my contacts had felt dry. Immediately the salty taste had returned! I believe it is from my eyedrops that I had been using pretty frequently. I don't know if this helps anyone but I hope it does! |

| I started noticing the taste of salt about a week ago. I bought a small bag of jelly beans (I chew on them while driving on road trips) and thought it was odd how salty they tasted, at the next gas stop I bought a new bag and they were the same way. I started paying attention after that and noticed that everything tastes slightly salty, even saliva. My lips and mouth don't seem salty like some comments, mainly just the tongue. I guess I better go have it checked if it doesn't go away soon. Joe. |

| I would like to know if anyone has an answer to the salty taste problem. I have been having the same problem and my primary care physician doesn't know what the problem is . I am very frustrated and need an answer. I know I am not going crazy and something is wrong. Drinking more water hasn't been helpful. |

The main cause of a salty taste in your mouth is dehydration. If you drink at lot of tea or coffee or cola you can be prone to this. Also certain types of medication can cause this taste.
However if the salty taste is combined with heartburn or pains in your upper right chest then it might be GERD, as in acid reflux.
I suffer from GERD myself and have to go and get an operation for it and I suffer from the salty taste all the time now, apparently its quite common with this condition.
See your doctor to be sure. |

Hi!
I am a 53 year old woman who has recently started to have the same salty taste in my mouth...it feels like I am eating raw salt, and it seems to be localized in the front of my mouth, tip of tongue and upper and lower lip. I too have had blood tests and seen the dentist...to no avail. Can't find out what is causing this. Anyone have answers??? It has been about a month now and it is driving me crazy! |

I have only had this for a few days. But the taste of salt in my mouth is so strong that I had to look it up on the net and this is where I ended up.
After reading all the posts on this thread, I have noticed a common factor.
The following key words keep coming up and they are dehydration, coffee, soda and smoking.
I am a heavy coffee drinker. I wake up with a cup and go to bed with a cup. I drink it all day long. I also have been drinking soda. Previously I had been drinking 1 to 2 large bottles of gatorade everyday. But once the weather turned cold, I just drank coffee. The salt taste is there all the time. But I noticed that it increases while I am having coffeee and smoking a cigerette
I am beginning to believe that I have been drinking to much coffee and not enough fluids like water and gatorade. I am going to cut back on the coffee and do my best to re-hydrate myself. I hope this works, because this constant salt taste is horrible.
If drinking more water and gatorade helps, I will come back to the thread and pass it on. |

I am so suprised that I found this page, I have had this exact same problem for months now and have no answers.
In July I had surgery to remove a tumor in my salavary gland, and since have been on alot of meds so I just put it down to that, now they think I have another tumor around the same area so I am waiting on an MRI, but in the mean time this taste is driving me nutts, as all of you stated it doesn't matter what you eat or drink everything is salty tasting...I brush my teeth constantly as I can't stand the taste.
Has anyone found anymore info on this?
If so please post.
OH and NO I have not mentioned it to my Dr's but I am definitely going to now that I see it is just not me. |

i have had salty mouth for 2 years now. my doctor has sent me to all the places you people have been. he is at a loss. it seems to be getting stronger more and more. my whole mouth taste like i swallowed sea water. all my teeth taste like salt. mostly when i run my tounge up behind my lower inside bottom teeth and on each tooth dental work has been done. my tounge is pure salt. i use a tounge scraper at night before bed. it helps little. after brushing, my mouth is not minty fresh, it's salty still. i pray for answers only i am not getting any. please advise if able.

| I just went to the dentist two days ago and I have noticed since the anesthetic wore off I had a "funny taste" in my mouth but now it is very distinguishable that it is a salty taste. And like the other posts it seems to be getting worse. Perhaps when they injected the anesthetic they damaged a nerve? Any answers appreciated. |
