Few days ago I heard that my uncle had serious problem with heart. He is 55 years old. His wife just said to my parents that he will have heart valve replacement. If I understood well, it’s a kind of surgery. Am I right? Tell me, please, What is heart valve replacement? Thanks!

When heart valves are severely damaged then must be replaced. The valve replacement is most often used to treat aortic valves and badly damaged mitral valves, but it can be used to treat any valve disease that is life threatening. As I know, heart specialists and surgeons agree that whenever possible a heart valve should be repaired instead of replaced.
