Hi, I am a twenty nine years old woman. Some time ago I started feeling very strange. My hands tremor and I sweat a lot. I went to see the doctor. After some tests, I was diagnosed with Graves disease. I never heard of this condition before. Some medicines were prescribed to me. Anyway, I would like you to tell me what is optimal treatment for Graves disease?

Hi, I am sorry to hear that you have Grave’s disease. This illness is very rare and it is always a surprise when someone gets it. This is an autoimmune disease. It is caused by immune system which recognizes thyroid gland as a threat. Because of that, immune system creates antibodies to act against the gland. However, this does not happen but these antibodies influence the production of thyroxin. Increased levels of thyroxin speed up the metabolism rate which can lead to more serious conditions. There is no cure for Grave’s disease. The treatment consists of treating the symptoms and blocking the creation of thyroxin. The optimal treatment for Grave’s disease almost always includes beta blockers along with other procedures or medications that are unique for every symptom caused by this illness. You should trust your doctor and his decisions.
