Hi. I’ve recently had some urinary tract problems and I’ve vent to doctor. He gave me some prescriptions and after I took some meds I got fine. But, what I’m curious about is the one term dr mentioned and I know nothing about – pyuria (I hope the spelling is correct). I’m just interested what that is. Thanks.

When person has urinary tract infection or inflammation than there is a presence of elevated numbers of white cells in the urine. That presence of elevated numbers of white cells in the urine is termed pyuria. By checking this, doctors can determine the problem cause more than 10 white blood cells per cubic millimeter of mid-stream urine is abnormal and is usually sign of urinary tract infection. There is also the phenomenon of sterile pyuria when the presence of white cells in a urine appears sterile.
