My grandmother had a stroke recently. She is much better now but we are afraid that she may have another one. She needs to take some anticoagulants to prevent it. I want to know What is the most widely used anticoagulant for dissolving blood clots? She is taking Coumadin now.
As I know, the most commonly used anticoagulants are warfarin (or Coumadin) and heparin. My father is using Coumadin also. I heard that aspirin is an effective therapy for the prevention of a second stroke and that sometimes it’s more effective then Coumadin. Also I read somewhere that heparin anticoagulants are not generally effective in preventing recurrent stroke.
