What is this brown discharge mid cycle

I have been getting a brown discharge mid cycle that last for two weeks up until my next period starts - it starts off a pinkish colour and gets thicker and darker until I come on. I have been for tests to check for anything sexually transmitted but all came back negative.
This has been going on every month for nearly a year and my doctor is is pretty useless about the whole thing!

I came out of a long term relationship about 7 months ago and even if I
wanted to start something new I couldn't because i'm so embarrassed by
this problem.

If anyone as any sort of idea what's going on hear I would be very grateful of any sugestions.
